Wildlife officer attempts to remove gator

After local residents reported seeing an alligator in a drainage ditch along Edgewood Drive April 24, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officer attempted to capture an alligator in the same area April 28.

According to FWC spokesman Stan Kirkland, Officer Gary Ridaught was in the area on a complaint when he spotted an alligator, approximately 6 feet long, in the drainage ditch. As Ridaught attempted to capture the alligator, it fled the ditch, entered a creek and left the area, Kirkland said.

“We can’t be sure if it was the same alligator that had been reported earlier or not,” Kirkland said.
