As temperatures drop, Navarre runners come out of their air-conditioned fortresses and start building miles on the pavement again. Locally, there are several opportunities to join in with a group if you’re looking to get your running game going.
Michael Bares Sr. runs one of those groups, Navarre Runners, which can be found on Facebook. A habitual Pensacola half-marathoner, Bares said he hasn’t always loved running.
“When I was in the military we ran for PT (Physical Training) tests and I absolutely hated running,” said Bares, a 23-year Air Force veteran. “Then when I retired, I started seeing the benefits of losing weight and maintaining through running.”
About at that point Bares saw the camaraderie of the running community.
