Recent rains combined with warm, humid weather act as a perfect breeding environment for mosquitoes. This has prompted Santa Rosa County officials to direct residents to take precautions against these disease carrying pests.
While Santa Rosa County has seen no local transmissions of Zika virus, mosquitoes can still transfer dangerous diseases including St. Louis encephalitis, eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile virus.
