April Warner has run April Showers Pet Grooming for five years and has noticed a trend of owners bringing in pets who are not properly vaccinated.
While other salons and boarding facilities only require that pets have the rabies vaccination, Warner will turn away a customer if the pet does not have the Distemper/Parvo and Bordetella vaccines as well.
“I see it at least once a week,” Warner said. “A lot of people get upset because other salons don’t require them, but I’ve required all three since day one. “I don’t want to put my own animals or other animals in jeopardy.”
Warner said Distemper/Parvo has the potential to be deadly and that Bordetella, also known as kennel cough, is highly contagious.
