Americans own more pets than ever before – and that means they are spending more on their animals.
The number of American households with a pet rose to 84.6 million this year, up from 79.7 million animal-owning households in 2015.
In 2017, pet expenditures nationwide are expected to reach an estimated $69 billion, according to data from industry trade organization American Pet Products Association (APPA).
That means each American household is slated to spend an average $816 on pets this year.
