Josh Newby of the Council on Aging of West Florida can’t say for sure that senior citizens in need have had more issues affording food for their pets in recent years. But he does know one thing.
“I would say the recent focus on this issue stems from new research showing the positive effects pets have on their human companions,” said Newby, the communications director for the council.
In an effort to help those seniors who have pets but might not always have the funds to feed them, the council announced recently that it received a $2,500 grant from Meals on Wheels America to aid its client pet support program.
