The Santa Rosa Board of County Commissioners approved an appeal to allow four pet pigs to remain with their family in a residential neighborhood Thursday, Sept. 22, during the monthly Special Rezoning meeting.
Lana and Joseph Passman applied to the Zoning Board for a variance to allow their two Kune Kune pigs, Gypsy and Sunshine, and two miniature pot-bellied pigs, Miss Mia and Simon, to continue to live with their family after an anonymous tip brought to light that the pigs were not allowed in the area.
At the Zoning Board’s Aug. 11 meeting, the motion to approve failed 3-3. Mr. Passman said he was shocked.
“With the first meeting I didn’t really think it was going to go like that. I did not expect them to say no,” Joseph Passman said. “I couldn’t believe that somebody could come in and say you can have this as a pet, but you can’t have this as a pet.”
So they appealed the decision to the BOCC.
