Lionfish provide different kind of thrill of the hunt

Brady Hale makes the trip from Dallas to Pensacola once a month to hunt lionfish, and the fact that he’s willing to travel more than 600 miles to hunt the invasive fish that has wreaked havoc in the Gulf of Mexico isn’t a surprise at all.

“Pensacola is the lionfish capital of the world,” Hale said. “I came here for the first awareness day a few years ago and wanted to get involved in hunting them. I also help organize the world championship.”

Hale owns a dive shop in Texas and has been diving for more than 20 years.
