Due to the threat of a Tropical Storm Nate becoming a hurricane this weekend, Gulf Islands National Seashore will close all areas of the park, including Fort Pickens and all of the Mississippi Islands.
The national seashore areas will close tonight. All campers at Fort Pickens and the Davis Bayou Campgrounds must evacuate by noon Friday.
“Right now, we have to close the park for the safety of our visitors and our employees,” Gulf Islands Superintendent Dan Brown said.
The national seashore will reopen after the storm passes and the staff has had an opportunity to mitigate any hazards resulting from the storm.
