Rodney Strickland has been hooked on fishing for cobia since he was a child.
“I caught my first one when I was 8,” Strickland, who is now 64, said. “I’ve been addicted ever since.”
Strickland was on the pier at Pensacola Beach Sunday trying to catch another one. So was Allan Towe, who said he caught a cobia last week while fishing on the pier at Navarre Beach. It weighed 39 pounds.
Both said they fish almost every day, adding that cobia fishing is a Florida pastime. However, it’s a pastime that can sometimes lead to trouble.
“There have been a lot of divorces and quit jobs at this time of the year,” Towe said with a laugh.
