Anglers comment on proposed offshore permit

DSC_2207The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) held a public workshop March 6 in Destin to accept comments about the establishment of a Gulf Offshore Recreational Fishing Permit. Thirty-five anglers attended the meeting. According to FWC, the permit would enhance recreational harvest and effort data collection for Florida’s offshore reef fish species, including red snapper through targeted angler surveys.

“This is the largest turnout we’ve had so far,” said Martha Bademan, Section Leader for the Division of Marine Fisheries Management. FWC started the workshops earlier this month in Fort Myers and will conduct the fifth and final workshop in Pensacola March 12.

The FWC will conduct a Draft Rule hearing at its meeting April 15 – 17 in Tallahassee with the possibility of a final hearing in June in Fort Myers.
