Despite the hike being shortened due to weather and a military mission, the 2015 Panhandle Trace Hike was a success.
“I thought it went well, said Christine Hale, who led the nine-day hike for the second year in a row. “We had to change the schedule a little bit because of the weather and a military mission at Eglin, but everyone who participated enjoyed it.”
The hike along the Florida National Scenic Trail was supposed to cover 100 miles but this year’s hike only covered about 75. The rain and wind from the remnants of Hurricane Patricia forced the cancelation of the Oct. 26 portion of the hike. A military mission on Eglin property took away the opportunity to hike there on Thursday.
