Reef ready to come alive

The artificial reefs in the sound and on the Gulf side are home to more than 60 different species, and with warmer temperatures on the horizon, they’ll soon be teeming with sea life.

The Navarre Beach Marine Science Station hosted a fish identification program Feb. 21 certifying participants to record the different marine life they see on Navarre’s reefs.

“There’s been significant growth on the reefs in the past two years since they’ve installed it and I’ve always been interested in data collection, finding out what’s on the reefs and inputting that data,” said Charlene Mauro, director of the science station.
