Blooms of the Florida red tide organism, Karenia brevis, were detected last week along Bay and Gulf counties in Northwestern Florida and Pinellas, Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte and Lee counties in Southwest Florida.
The red tide was detected by satellite images and an analysis of water samples in those areas.
It was detected in low- to medium-concentrations in eight samples collected inshore in Bay County and in low- to high-concentrations in seven samples collected inshore in Gulf County.
