The busy summer season is set to wind down after the Labor Day weekend for Navarre Beach lifeguards, but they will remain on duty through Nov. 1. “Our lifeguard staff, as of today, has performed 92 rescues and assists on Navarre Beach,” said Terry Wallace, utilities superintendent of Navarre Beach. That number is a 53 percent increase over the entire 2014 season which totaled 44.
The 2015 season began Mar. 14 with nine returning lifeguards and three new ones. Both lead guards, Matt Ritter and Charles Marek, were new to the position, although they had served as lifeguards for years prior.
