Navarre Beach lifeguards, there to keep you safe

According to lead guard Charles Marek, the 2016 beach renourishment has had a significant impact to this year’s beach visitors. “We have had many more people on the beach this year,” Marek said. “They have heard about the renourishment and want to see for themselves.”

This is Marek’s fourth year as a lifeguard. During the off season, he attends the vet tech program at Pensacola State College and scuba dives. “The renourishment flattened some sand bars. As a result, the surf has been less rough. We have only had one bad day, when we had to make about 15 saves.”

“After the renourishment, we moved our towers closer to the surf,” lead guard Aaron Wible said. “The visitors still gather close to the water, despite having more sand available. The larger beach area allows us to clear the beach much faster when bad weather hits or there is an emergency.”
