Hundreds of homeschoolers throughout the Southeast gathered at the Navarre Beach Marine Science Station (NBMSS) Friday, Oct. 14 to touch and explore at the Homeschool Ocean Science Mini Festival.
The festival featured a variety of learning experiences scattered throughout the station as well as the coast of the Santa Rosa Sound. Visitors hailed from local homeschool coops to places as far flung as Panama City and Alabama.
“I want to provide some science,” NBMSS Director Charlene Mauro said. “They have standards and testing in the homeschool curriculum, but some of them don’t have experience collecting plankton or with a microscope. So the basic science skills, I want to introduce them to.”
