Leggett excited about new start in Tampa

Jordan Leggett wasn’t expecting the call that came in on a Monday in mid-May. The New York Jets asked the third-year tight end to come by the team facility. They planned to waive him.

“It kind of caught me by surprise,” Leggett said. “I figured the day would come eventually, but it’s unfortunate it happened so early in my career. But it’s strictly business. I’m relieved. I’m ready for a new start.”

That new start happens to be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one of several teams that immediately expressed interest in claiming the Navarre alum off the waiver wire. The Bucs landed him the next night.

“There were six or seven teams interested, and that made me excited,” Leggett said. “The Bills showed interest and I could have still been in New York, but I’m definitely glad Tampa pulled the trigger on me.”

Tampa is ideal for a couple of reasons.

For one, Leggett is back in his home state of Florida.

He’ll also play his home games at Raymond James Stadium, the same place where he won his national championship with Clemson when the Tigers defeated Alabama 35-31 in 2017.

“It’s definitely exciting. There is a lot of potential there and I’m excited to work with that team,” Leggett said.
