Leap of faith works out well for Bly

Gianna Bly has wrapped up her college soccer career, the final two years spent at Cal State Bakersfield.

After two seasons at Daytona State, heading to Cal State was a leap of faith, but one that was worth it.

Her boyfriend convinced her to give it a shot.

“I was only looking at Florida schools and then started to look into Cal State more. Knowing it was Division I was a big deal. I was able to prove people wrong that said I couldn’t play at a D-I school,” Bly said.

She said it was a little nerve-wracking, but the change didn’t come as a complete shock considering she had become accustomed to change while growing up in a military family.

Still, settling in at a new school as a new player on the team took a little time.

“It was scary at first because I had to find my role, but my boyfriend and my teammates provided great support. That was a big help for me,” she said.
