Gianna Bly has wrapped up her college soccer career, the final two years spent at Cal State Bakersfield.
After two seasons at Daytona State, heading to Cal State was a leap of faith, but one that was worth it.
Her boyfriend convinced her to give it a shot.
“I was only looking at Florida schools and then started to look into Cal State more. Knowing it was Division I was a big deal. I was able to prove people wrong that said I couldn’t play at a D-I school,” Bly said.
She said it was a little nerve-wracking, but the change didn’t come as a complete shock considering she had become accustomed to change while growing up in a military family.
Still, settling in at a new school as a new player on the team took a little time.
“It was scary at first because I had to find my role, but my boyfriend and my teammates provided great support. That was a big help for me,” she said.
