William Brandon Aydelott of Gulf Breeze has been arrested and charged with the Christmas Eve murder of his mother, Sharon Aydelott.
At approximately 6:20 p.m. December 24, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a medical emergency at the 1100 block of Crane Cove in Gulf Breeze. Initially, the call was for an unconscious person. When Deputies arrived, the area was determined to be a crime scene and one person was pronounced deceased by Fire/Medics.
Investigators were able to determine that the suspect had been arguing with the victim for an undisclosed amount of time. The suspected then stabbed the victim several times with kitchen knives and also struck the victim with a baseball bat. The victim succumbed to the wounds on scene.
The suspect then fled the crime scene. He was at large for approximately 3 hours until Deputies were able to locate him. The suspect was staying at a residence nearby when deputies located his vehicle. Deputies surrounded the home and attempted to make contact. The suspected surrendered without incident.
The suspect was taken to the Santa Rosa County Jail where he confessed to the murder.
At this time, William Aydelott remains in custody and is being held with no bond. He is charged with first degree premeditated homicide. The suspect is 17 years of age.
Sharon Aydelott was a 6th and 7th grade Comprehensive Science teacher for the Santa Rosa County School district and had been teaching Science at Holley-Navarre Middle School since 1998.
