A registered sexual offender in Jay arrested June 19 is accused of sexually abusing children as young as 3 years old.
According to a Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, Gleaion Lee Wood, 71, (also known as Jimmy Wood) sexually assaulted and molested three children ages 3, 7 and 8 at his home on Dykestown Road in Jay.
Deputies began investigating the matter June 1 after one of the children told her mother that Wood had touched her in places she should not be touched.
The children and witnesses interviewed at Santa Rosa Kid’s House told investigators that Wood had touched the children’s genitals on multiple occasions and in front of other children.
According to the report, the child victims had begun sexually acting out and performing sexual acts on each other for months prior to the report.
Witnesses stated the children had been left at the house with Wood in May while their mother was getting surgery.
Wood is a registered sexual offender. Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show Wood was convicted of lewd and lascivious sexual battery of a child under the age of 16 in Escambia County in 1990.
One individual interviewed in relation to the 2019 case said they were aware that Wood was a registered sexual offender, but they had been told it was a lie. The witness said they were not aware of the abuse to the children until recently.
The report also states the children had been found with blood in their underwear and pull up due to the assault. The children also told deputies that Wood had threatened to kill their family if they told anyone about the incidents.
Wood is charged with two counts of sexual assault of a child younger than 12 years old and one count of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child younger than 12 years old.
He remained in Santa Rosa County Jail on GPS hold as of June 26. His bond has been set at $2.5 million.
