Anyone driving along the northern end of Avalon Boulevard would have a hard time missing the refurbished Army helicopter perched just feet from the side of the street.
Painted on its side is “The Hangar,” the name of the restaurant the monument fronts. Owner Jessica Kerns said their business has a military theme, and they decided to put the helicopter on property to drum up business and celebrate the area’s military heritage.
The business opened their doors in late 2018. Within a few months, they received a letter from the county declaring their helicopter and the military-grade vehicle—a deuce and a half— parked out front is in violation of county codes.
