ICU nurse fights off infection, set to start rehab care

The future looks promising for a Sacred Heart Hospital intensive care nurse turned patient as she recovers from a life-threatening infection. Navarre resident Christa Gibson could be checking out of the same floor she once treated patients on and be checking into rehabilitation therapy as her strength continues to build.

Gibson, 36, is mother to two girls, 2-year-old Jessie Blu and almost 2-month-old Jessie Belle.

Just days after giving birth to her youngest daughter, Gibson became ill with a severe Group A Streptococcal bacterial infection that had spread throughout her body causing multiple organ failures, said husband Jesse Gibson.
