Hotel construction planned along Navarre Parkway

Despite lengthy delays, construction of a new hotel along Navarre Parkway near the eastern foot of the Navarre Beach Bridge could be underway soon.

Owners of the vacant parcels between Tommy Snowballs and the foreclosed Helen Back Again have filed for a variance to allow construction of the multistory hotel closer to the property lines.

Plans submitted to the Planning and Zoning Department in May 2016 were included in the Zoning Board application. Those plans were nearly earmarked as inactive in November 2016 after the applicant hesitated to submit required updates.

The plans show a roughly 68,000-square-foot, four-story hotel being built on the property. It would house roughly 100 rooms. The hotel would also feature a pool and spacious parking in front and underneath the hotel at ground level. The brand of hotel had not been released.

The variance requests would allow the roughly 59 foot tall hotel to be built within five feet of the property line to the west and 20 feet from the property line on the east. The current setback requirement would be 29.5 feet.

In the application the developer indicates wetlands and the odd shape of the property as reasons for the requests.

Though a potential hotel would be on the waterfront side of Navarre Parkway facing Santa Rosa Sound, the actual waterfront is owned by another entity.
The hotel would be within 600 feet of Best Western Navarre Waterfront and within 1,200 feet of the Days Inn and Suites Conference Center.

Engineering company Jehle-Halstead,Inc. will represent property owner 8600 Nav Pkwy LLC, licensed to a Narendra Patel of Destin.

The Zoning Board will hear the issue Jan. 11 during their regular meeting in Milton at the Santa Rosa County Administrative Center Board Room, 6495 Caroline Street.
