Holley-Navarre Middle School teacher arrested on battery charge

Lauren West

Lauren Wyatt West, 31, of the 8400 block of Gulf Boulevard, was arrested April 23 on a first-degree misdemeanor charge of battery after police responded to her Navarre Beach apartment in reference to a disturbance.

According to the report, West and the male victim were involved in a verbal argument that became physical.

When the deputy first spoke to West, she said “nothing” happened and apologized for “wasting” law enforcement’s time. She accused the victim of being physically abusive toward her in the past, but said he hadn’t touched her that night.

The victim accused West of a previous altercation, according to the report.

The victim told police he believed West’s fingernail scratched his face when he pushed her off of him. The officer observed a red mark on his cheek.

The deputy determined West was the primary aggressor and she was transported to Santa Rosa County Jail and booked at 1:17 a.m. She was given no bond pending first appearance and later issued a $1,000 bond. She was released April 24 at 12:50 a.m.

According to the arrest report, West, is a teacher at Holley-Navarre Middle School. The Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida holds teachers to a higher standard, including a requirement that they self-report any conviction or plea agreements for any criminal offense other than a minor traffic violation within 48 hours after final judgement.
