The long vacant waterfront restaurant at 8651 Navarre Parkway sold for $1.25 million in late November 2019.
Now the new owners are looking at their options.
The parcel had previously been the home of Helen Back Again. The restaurant closed its doors back in 2017, and the property was turned over to Beach Community Bank in May 2017 to avoid a foreclosure. The bank was looking to sell it for roughly $2.5 million, but it received $1.65 million as part of a larger deal with JTS Capital Realty BB LLC, an arm of Texas-based JTS Capital Group in 2018.
JTS was asking $1.75 million for it.
But Wayne and Denise Wheatley of One Pier Marina Gulf Breeze purchased the property for $500,000 less than asking. The couple also owns marina and waterfront retail property at the foot of the Pensacola Bay Bridge in Gulf Breeze.
Their son, Scott Wheatley, told Navarre Press they are looking to rent the space in Navarre to one or multiple tenants in the future.
“Everything is on the table,” he said. “We are really just trying to wrap our heads around it and figure out what will be best for it.”
He said they are open to restaurant, retail or other potential ventures looking to utilize the building.
The parcel has its charms. The 12,000-square-foot restaurant building underwent repairs by JTS before they placed the property on the market. The site also features a beach front back deck and directly over looks Santa Rosa Sound.
On the other hand, the site lacks the necessary parking to meet county requirements for the entire property to be a restaurant once again. Wheatley said they are looking at solutions for that too, including breaking the site into multiple uses.
“It is a very cool piece of property, and we’re glad we ended up with it,” Wheatley said.
