Navarre may get its first beach wheelchair

Navarre Beach doesn’t have beach wheelchairs, but that could soon change.

The Santa Rosa County Tourist Development Council (TDC) Jan. 21 approved purchase of a $1,600 beach wheelchair.

The wheelchair will be used exclusively and stored by Heroes on the Water (HOW), a nonprofit organization aimed to help veterans by providing therapeutic kayak fishing excursions.

Frank Daily, HOW’s director of coordinated therapeutic programs,  said the wheelchair will be available without cost to veterans. He says HOW will also be cooperative for its public use.
