In retrospect, he probably should have worn a glove, Ricky Acosta said.
But with a family gathering about to happen, Acosta was just trying to hurry when he decided Sept. 12 to pick up a bat that he thought was dead on Hurlburt Field.
Acosta, who said he is used to handling animals for his job, was trying to follow orders and dispose of the critter, which fell in front of a door on base, before
the gathering started.
