A Navarre woman was arrested for drunk driving and punching a Santa Rosa Sheriff’s deputy Saturday, Sept. 10, during a traffic stop on Navarre Parkway.
According to Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports, Jennifer Mattiza was pulled over after leaving Helen Back restaurant in her Mitsubishi while highly intoxicated. A complaint was called in to police and the responding officer observed her swerving on the road and driving in both lanes.
The officer reported Mattiza’s breath smelt like alcohol and her speech was slow and slurred.
He asked her for her license, insurance and registration. Mattiza handed the officer an oil change receipt. He handed it back to her and explained, but she handed him back the receipt three times.
When asked if she had been drinking Mattiza responded “no.” When asked to turn off the vehicle, Mattiza said “no.”
The officer reached into the vehicle to turn off the vehicle at which point he reported she became highly agitated. He opened the door and requested she exit the vehicle. Mattiza then punched the officer in the chest with a closed fist.
The officer then restrained and hand cuffed Mattiza.
Mattiza is charged with misdemeanor DUI, third degree felony battery on a law enforcement officer and third degree felony resisting arrest. She refused both a field sobriety test and breath test.
She is being held at Santa Rosa County Jail on $11,000 bond.
