The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office is actively searching for suspect Michael Dakota Austin, 27, of Mary Esther. An arrest warrant has been issued for Austin for resisting arrest without violence, fleeing/eluding and child neglect.
Austin is a 5-foot-6, 135-pound white male with brown hair and blue eyes.
According to a police report, Sheriff Bob Johnson initiated a traffic stop Aug. 11 on a vehicle with expired tags on Highway 87.
The vehicle turned and continued driving with the driver door partially open. The driver then bailed out of the car, leaving the car in motion and headed on a collision course into trees with a female passenger and a special needs child in the rear of the vehicle.
The suspect, identified as Austin, ran into a wooded area and escaped. Deputies searched the area with no results. The vehicle passengers were not injured.
Anyone with information on Austin’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Santa Rosa County Crime Stoppers Program at 850-437-STOP. There is a reward of up to $3000 for anonymous information.
