A Navarre student was dragged down the road after being trapped in a school bus door May 30.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol report, a student wearing a backpack was exiting the bus at approximately 2 p.m. along Duncan Ridge Drive when they got trapped in the doors as they were closing.
The driver failed to notice the trapped student and drove a short distance before coming to a stop.
According to the 911 dispatch on the scanner, the caller reported the student was dragged past three houses in the incident.
The driver stopped upon noticing the student according to the report. The child sustained minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital.
The driver Teresa Samo, 59, of Navarre has been charged with reckless driving.
A spokesperson for bus service provider Student Transportation of America issued the following statement:
“Our thoughts are with the passenger whose backpack got caught in the bus door and was involved in an incident in Santa Rosa yesterday. While we are reviewing the incident internally, we continue to work closely with law enforcement and the school district to do everything we can to assist with their ongoing investigation. As partners in this community, safety is our first and most important priority.”
