Storm temporarily closes pier, destroys lifeguard stands

DSC_8901A line of storms with strong winds that damaged commercial and residential property March 28 also damaged Santa Rosa County facilities on Navarre Beach and Navarre Park and led to the temporary closing of the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier.

According to a news release from Santa Rosa County, two blowout panels were blown out by the surf, which caused the pier to be closed for about two hours. Three lifeguard stands on the beach were destroyed by strong winds and the north side floating dock at the Navarre Beach Boat Ramp is closed due to damage to the dock structure.

The Navarre Visitor Center has roof, soffit and gutter damage, but the Tourist Development Council and Navarre Beach Area Chamber of Commerce remain open regular business hours. Some trees in Navarre Park were damaged, so crews closed a portion of the park until unsafe conditions are corrected.
