Some areas still impacted by flood

Last April’s flooding exemplified the destructive force of water, testing the capability of area infrastructure with record-breaking rainfall. One year later, county officials are using knowledge gleaned in its aftermath to update the county’s flood mitigation plan.

According to National Weather Service records, roughly 26 inches of rain fell in Santa Rosa County within 30 hours April 29 and 30. Hundreds of area homes were damaged. The National Guard mobilized to assist with evacuations, and Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency in 26 counties.
