Etta Lawlor filed papers March 7 with the Santa Rosa County Supervisor of Elections Office and is now the sixth candidate vying for commissioner in District 4. Lawler filed as a Libertarian Party of Florida candidate. The other five candidates — James Broxson, Ruth Esser, Yvonne Harper, Andrea McDermott and Rob Williamson — all filed as Republicans.
The District 4 seat is currently occupied by Jim Melvin, but due to redistricting, he will face fellow commissioner Bob Cole in the August 26 Republican primary for the District 2 seat. The winner of that race will face Wallis Mahute, who filed as an unaffiliated candidate, in the November general election.
