According to a press release issued by Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, a suspect, Tyjuwan Jahdeil Valdes Jenkins aka, “Ty Jenkins,” has been arrested in connection with the shooting the evening of Dec. 11 at the Tom Thumb located at Hwy. 87 and Laredo.
Jenkins is a 17 year old with a Georgia ID and was arrested at a home on Deer Lane in Navarre.
Jenkins is charged with aggravated assault with attempt to kill, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana.
According to a Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office report, the shooting was in connection with a drug deal in the Tom Thumb parking lot. Jenkins pointed his gun and shot the victim in the leg as he was running away. The victim stopped at the Days Inn in Navarre to ask for help.
Jenkins was arrested at a home on Deer Lane in Navarre where he was found in bed with marijuana beside him.
On Dec. 11 at approximately 5:45 a shooting was reported to the Sheriff’s Office at Tom Thumb located on Laredo and Hwy. 87 in Navarre. The victim, an 18 year old male was shot in the leg. The victim was taken to the Days Inn on Navarre Parkway where EMS treated and transported him to a local hospital.
About an hour later, a second shooting was reported in the area of Deer Lane in Navarre. Shots were fired at an occupied moving vehicle. No one was injured but a windshield was reportedly damaged. The shootings are believed to be related.
A suspect has been taken into custody. The motive remains under investigation.

UPDATE: As confirmed by Rich Aloy of the Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Office, a shooting occurred at Tom Thumb on Laredo Street and Hwy. 87 south around 5:45 p.m. The shooter and victim fled the scene. The victim later entered the Days Inn in Navarre seeking help. He was taken to a local hospital and his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Earlier reports indicated he was shot in the leg.
Later in the evening, three shots were fired at the intersection of Deer Lane and Pawnee near the soccer fields of NYSA. The caller reported that two men in hoodies fired three shots and the windshield to a vehicle had been shot. No injuries were reported.
Major crimes is processing the scene at Laredo while deputies are investigating the shooting on Deer Lane. It is unknown at this time if the Deer Lane incident is related to the Laredo scene.
So far, no one has been arrested in either shooting.
About an hour ago, shots rang out at the Tom Thumb at the corner of Laredo and Hwy. 87 south. According to bystanders and store employees a man was shot in the parking lot. Witnesses say the shooter and victim fled immediately.
In a separate crime scene, the front of the Days Inn on Navarre Parkway is wrapped in crime scene tape. The owner of the hotel told Navarre Press that a man who had been shot in the leg entered the front lobby seeking help.
The shooting was confirmed by Rich Aloy, the Public Information Officer at the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office.
