Scammer poses as cash-demanding deputy

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a telephone scam involving the agency, according to a press release.

Police say the individual is representing himself as a deputy during the call. This individual then tells the person there is an active warrant for their arrest. The caller will then demand money in lieu of arrest.

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office said they will not call anyone about an arrest warrant, nor do they ask for monetary payments.

According to the press release, persons who receive a call from this person should disconnect immediately and contact the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office dispatch at (850) 983-1190.
