Restaurant a “total loss” after early morning fire

Officials are calling Los Cabos Mexican Grill in Navarre a total loss after flames engulfed the restaurant’s interior early Monday morning.

At about 2 a.m. July 30, Holley Navarre Fire District was dispatched to the strip mall at 9500 Navarre Parkway after a 911 caller stated flames were engulfing two to four of the units in the center said Fire Chief Ron Norton. Also responding to the scene were firefighter from Navarre Beach Fire Department, Midway Fire District and Florosa Fire Department.

Norton said when they arrived on scene flames were already coming out of the front windows of the restaurant which occupied four of the units in the shopping complex. Gulf Breeze Fire and Mary Esther Fire were called to assist. Within 20 minutes the fire was under control and was out 10 minutes after that Norton said. No one was inside the building at the time of the incident, and no foul play is suspected.

Based on the preliminary investigation, an electrical issue in the framework of the bar or a cooler in the area likely caused the fire. Norton said the restaurant is a total loss.

Neighboring units were not burned in the incident, but other damage did occur. Water seeped under the wall of Los Cabos into a neighboring barber shop Norton said.

“All of the units have mild to moderate smoke damage,” he said.
