Placement of restrooms along the Gulf of Mexico’s longest fishing pier, the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier, was cleared Wednesday by Florida Gov. Rick Scott according to an announcement made by district County Commissioner Rob Williamson.
Williamson made the announcement via a video posting to Facebook.
“I just want to say thank you to Gov. Scott and the cabinet today for approving our request to add restroom facilities to the pier… It takes quite a while sometimes to get the results, but this is one of the instances where we did get results and an improvement,” he said.
The commission submitted a letter of request to the governor’s office back in May. Under current permits for the pier, issued for its construction in 2010, restrooms would not be allowed due to being over public waters.
The proposed facilities would be a self-contained, portable model according to the letter submitted by the county. A final date for installation, cost and location on the pier have yet to be determined.
