The Benaq Shaq Café at Navarre Beach Fishing Pier closed Wednesday. Restaurant operations remained suspended yesterday for a routine quarterly cleaning. It reopens today at 11 a.m. with a new but familiar name – Lagerheads.
“We’re excited about moving forward as Lagerheads and developing this opportunity for customers to have a wonderful experience,” said Scott Rayner a managing partner. Lagerheads has been the name of the pier bar, which remained open. However, a former partner, Bob Benaquis, previously operated the restaurant. Now both the bar and restaurant will be operated as Lagerheads.
The timing was perfect for the transition. “Four times a year we’re supposed to shut down, pull all the equipment out do a really deep cleaning,” noted Rayner, who pointed out tourism generally tapers off after Labor Day.
Rayner says the restaurant will feature an offseason menu until traffic picks back up in early 2015. He says traditional restaurant food, such as chicken and hamburger will be served. “The hamburgers are freshly made and formed,” noted Rayner, who says weekly specials will be offered. “When it’s a bit cold we will serve chili or chowder,” said Rayner.
