The notorious left turn lane on U.S. 98 in the City of Gulf Breeze that motorists have perilously used as cut-across to and from Hoffman Drive, or into Starbucks and other businesses, will soon be permanently closed off.
Known to some residents as “Malfunction Junction,” the turn lane and its opening in the grassy median strip were temporarily blocked with a row of barrier poles last September.
Since then the intersection, which had previously been the site of about 20 wrecks a year, hasn’t had a single accident, said Gulf Breeze Police Chief Robert Randle.
