Pen Air gives UWF million dollars for field

What’s the name of a field worth?

Apparently a million dollars.

Pen Air Federal Credit Union took its partnership with the University of West Florida to another level Wednesday morning with a $1 million gift to the Pensacola school.

In doing so, the artificial turf field, which is expected to one day be the site of an on-campus stadium, will be named Pen Air Federal Credit Union Field.

“You don’t get too many million dollar gifts,” UWF President Dr. Judy Bense said. “We have a few, don’t get me wrong, and we have had more than million in a gift before, but for a brand new team, for a brand new field and a brand new sport, it (this gift) is outrageously important.”

Bense, who will retire in December, created the vision for football nearly a decade ago and has watched the dream become a reality over the last seven years.
