Josh Neal Patton, who at 17 was charged last April with possession of a firearm on a school campus, pleaded no contest Jan. 7 to two related charges.
Patton will be sentenced Feb. 24 by First Judicial Circuit Judge John Simon. Prior to accepting the plea deal, Simon asked Patton if he understood the potential ramifications.
Patton was found off-campus during school hours by a female Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office deputy who escorted him back to NHS. Crawford said the officer likely saved him from suicidal intentions. However, Crawford said the move also compromised Patton, who had a loaded .22-caliber firearm in his backpack.
