Christopher Reed Lynch is in the Santa Rosa County Jail after deputies say he beat him mom to death at around 1:30 a.m. on Mother’s Day.
The initial call to the sheriff’s office was in reference to what sounded like a person beating a dog. As the deputy neared the house on Evelyn Street, he heard loud yelling that sounded as if a person or animal was in distress. As the deputy stopped his car, Lynch, who was covered in blood, yelled at him, “You want some?” and he had a small pole in his hand raised and ready to strike. He swung the pole at the deputy but missed and hit the patrol car. He took a second swing, and the deputy tased him. Initially Lynch dropped to the ground, but at so
me point he got back up and came at the deputy punching him in the side of the head. Lynch had to be tased several times during the incident, yet he continued to be violent with deputies.
When they were able to get to the front porch of the residence, Lynch’s mother Cheryl was found lying on the porch. There was a large amount of blood on her and the porch. She had numerous lacerations on her face and her eye was swollen shut. She managed to tell deputies that her son was hitting her.
Cheryl was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital where she later died from her injuries. Initial charges against Lynch were Aggravated Battery with a deadly weapon, Battery on a law enforcement officer, Assault on a law enforcement officer, and Resisting an officer. Officials expect the charges to be upgraded to Homicide as a result of Cheryl’s death.
Lynch is behind bars with no bond pending his first appearance.
