Three Santa Rosa County officials Feb. 24 took a field trip to Livingston, Louisiana to check out a 109,000-square-foot courthouse recently constructed for $20 million.
District 1 Commissioner Jayer Williamson, Santa Rosa County Clerk of Court Donald Spencer and Sgt. Rickie Cotton, head of Santa Rosa County Courthouse security, made the trip.
“It is a very nice facility and helped us with cost, ideas and understanding of how to build an efficient courthouse that is within a budget,” Spencer said.
Last fall voters rejected a penny tax to fund construction of a $50 million courthouse, so the county is exploring how the project could be completed for less at the existing courthouse site.
