John Stephen “Steve” Captain, age 56, of Navarre, Florida, passed away on December 3, 2014, in Pensacola, Florida.
Steve loved sports. He was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker, Florida State University and San Antonio Spurs fan. He enjoyed the game of golf and scored two holes-in-one. A recent highlight included attending the 2012 Masters Tournament. Steve was a member of the Okaloosa Walton Officials Association and Hub City Sports Officials. He was also a member of the Navarre United Methodist Church where he was active in the Men’s Emmaus. Steve served the country that he loved over 24 years in the United States Air Force, and had recently enjoyed reconnecting with the Zweibrucken “Grub” Warriors. After his military retirement, he owned and operated Cap’s Lawn Care. Most of all, Steve loved his family and spending time with them. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.
Steve is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Lisa Bettelon Captain of Navarre, FL; son, Derek Stephen Captain of Tallahassee, FL; daughter, Amanda “Katie” Captain, a student at FSU; sister, Donna “Sis” Captain Sheppard of New Paris, OH; niece, Taryna Bradley and husband, Mike, and their children, Sage and Fletcher, of Richmond, IN; niece, Jaymi Sheppard and fiancé, Brett Marker, and their son, Brogan, of New Paris, OH; mother-in-law, Madonna Bettelon of Navarre, FL; brother-in-law, Phil Bettelon and family of Williamsburg, IN; sister-in-law, Jona Friedman and husband, Mike, and their daughter, Madison, of Navarre, FL; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on December 12, 2014 at Navarre United Methodist Church, 9474 Navarre Parkway, Navarre, FL. The family will receive visitors at the church starting at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Navarre United Methodist Church We Care Fund or to Covenant Hospice.
