24-year-old Jacob McKinley of Navarre was killed Thursday night on U.S. 98 after a vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into McKinley’s Ford Escape.
Rickey Ivey, 59, also of Navarre, was reportedly listed in serious condition following the accident. According to a Florida Highway Patrol media release, Ivey was traveling eastbound on U.S. 98 at approximately 8:20 p.m. in his 2009 E350 Mercedes approaching Bob White Court in Mary Esther. Ivey traveled over the median driving eastbound in the inside lane of westbound U.S.98. Subsequently, Ivey’s vehicle struck the driver’s side of a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Jennifer Tafur, age 25. Ivey’s car continued eastbound striking the front left quarter panel and driver door of McKinley’s vehicle, a 2003 Ford Escape. Ivey’s vehicle came to rest facing west in the median. Tafur’s vehicle came to rest facing southeast in the inside lane of westbound U.S. 98 and McKinley’s vehicle came to a final rest on its left side on the north shoulder of US 98. McKinley was pronounced dead on scene.
The accident is under investigation.
