After he allegedly fled to Alabama, Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Navarre man accused of molesting a child younger than 12 years old.
Loyd Robert Walker, 63, faces a felony molestation charge for allegedly sticking his hands inside the pants of the child. The allegations were reported in late July.
According to the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, the investigation was prompted by the child disclosing to her mother that Walker had touched her genitals over her underwear on multiple occasions. She also said he had made her touch her tongue to his.
Walker was left alone with the child for two hours at a time twice a week for the past six months according to the report.
According to a witness interview, Walker admitted to the witness that he had touched the child. The witness said Walker had problems with drugs and alcohol.
Following the confession, Walker allegedly emptied his bank accounts and fled to Huntsville, Alabama. When an investigator called Walker, he initially denied the allegations. During the conversation, he allegedly became paranoid that the deputy was tracking his phone and was driving to Alabama to arrest him.
He refused to return to Florida but eventually agreed to meet with a Huntsville Police Department detective Aug. 5 for a sworn interview in which he gave conflicting statements.
Walker was processed into Santa Rosa County Jail Sept. 4 and charged with felony lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim less than 12 years old. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison if convicted.
Walker remains in jail on GPS hold.
