In an unexpected turn of events, Santa Rosa Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man wanted for attempted murder in New York.
September 12, deputies received a call about a stolen iPhone in Gulf Breeze. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, the deputies walked the victim through locating the phone through an app, which showed the phone was located in Navarre. Deputies arrived at a house on Rexford Street in Holley by the Sea and spoke with the resident, Frank Caserta. The phone was dialed and could be heard ringing inside the residence.
Caserta was subsequently arrested and charged for stealing the phone. It was later determined he had an active warrant for parole violation for attempted murder in New York. He is being held in Santa Rosa County jail.
In August, the New York Post reported that police were searching for Caserta, who they say knifed an associate on the street in Little Italy in May. Police say he assaulted a 50-year-old man on May 7, repeatedly stabbing him in the face and chest.
Caserta was paroled from Marcy Correctional Facility in December 2013 after serving 27 years for murder.
