On Christmas Eve of 2013, Brandon Aydelott, a 17-year-old boy suffering from schizophrenia-induced hallucinations, beat and stabbed his mother to death in the doorway of her Gulf Breeze home.
Now his lawyers are seeking a portion of her life insurance policy for him.
After a lengthy back and forth between attorneys as to Aydelott’s competency to stand trial, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity in October 2016. Aydelott’s attorneys did not dispute that their client killed his mother.
