Man in jail after toddler was found on 98

Dale Ray Manning

A Gulf Breeze man is in jail after the toddler he was babysitting was found wandering near Highway 98 late Thursday morning.

Dale Ray Manning, 50, of the 1800 block of Abercrombie Road, was arrested on a felony charge of child neglect, and is being held on $7,500 bond.

According to Midway Fire District Lt. Christopher Phelps, a good Samaritan saw the child, who wasn’t wearing any shoes, and brought him to the fire station where they were met by Santa Rosa County deputies.

Phelps said Manning was “highly intoxicated” and provided a breath sample of .27.

It is unclear how the child became separated from Manning.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was called and the child was returned to his parents.
